Abraham Lyons was born in 1850 in Buttik, Kovno Guberna, Lithuania. In 1910 he emigrated to the United States where he lived in Baltimore, Maryland with his wife, Brina. While residing in Baltimore, Lyons worked as a tailor in a men's clothing factory. After the death of his wife, Lyons moved to Roanoke, Virginia to live with his children until his death in 1933. Dr. Harry Lyons was born in Washington DC on March 18, 1900. His father moved the family to Lexington, Virginia when Lyons was a year old. It was in Lexington that he was raised and went to school. After a year at Washington and Lee University in the Student Army Training Corps, he followed his sister's advice and transferred to the Medical College of Virginia where he graduated with a degree in dentistry in 1923.
